A few software engineers from the AIM community, including key members from the Open AIM development team, maintain their own blogs covering Open AIM and instant messaging. These sites can be an excellent source of information and code samples. We encourage you to read these blogs on a regular basis, they're a great source of information, and often straight from the engineers who work on AIM.

Gregsmind.com is maintained by Greg Cypes the Tech Lead and Evangelist for Open AIM. He has developed and designed the core instant messaging software for AIM, ICQ and AOL including SMS, location services, audio, video and peer-2-peer technology in AIM. Working on AIM since 1999, he has enjoyed his role in transforming AOL's client software from a self-contained entity to one of the most robust and powerful open messaging and peer-2-peer networks in the world. In his free time, Greg has developed and contributed dozens of extensions to the Open AIM community and other social networks, which are available on Gregsmind.com.

 

Gus What?!

Gus What?! is a personal blog by Gus Verdun, Systems Architect at AOL working in the AIM Core and Client Development Teams. His unique position as a member of both teams gives Gus tremendous depth and insight into the inner workings of AIM. His site includes discussions covering AIM clients, plugins, APIs, and more. Open AIM developers will find plenty of sample code in C++ and JavaScript and other useful information on his site. Gus has authored a number of AIM plugins that extend the capabilities of any Open AIM client, including the RX-Plugin, CoreWitness, and IM Tweaks plugins. You can find many of his plugins in the AIM Gallery under the gusblog and amofactory screen names.

Gmadkat’s Open AIM Blog, targeted specifically at Open AIM developers, is maintained by Gowri Visweswaran, an engineer working in the Open AIM team at AOL. This site is tailored for Open AIM development, and covers frequently asked questions about Open AIM as well as providing detailed information and code samples on the design, development and use of modules and plugins with Open AIM.
