You can build your gadget using the gadgets* API spec outlined here and then submit it to our Gallery by clicking the Submit Gadget button below.

What types of gadgets does myAOL support?

myAOL only supports gadgets as specified by the gadgets.* API. Submitting your gadgets to the myAOL Gallery gives you the opportunity to show it off on our home page experience with the potential to reach an audience of millions.

What are Gadgets? Where can I learn more about how to create one?

gadgets are simple HTML and JavaScript applications that can be embedded in web pages and other applications. They are written in a module language using XML that wraps HTML and JavaScript. You can find developer guides, tutorials, samples and all you need to get started here. gadgets re-use existing web technologies such as HTML, JavaScript, Flash, CSS, etc. if you have questions on gadget development, post your questions to the discussion group, and check out the gadgets support pages for additional resources.

What gadgets API does myAOL support and where can I learn more about it?

myAOL supports gadgets built using the gadgets.* API Visit http://code.google.com/apis/gadgets/docs/dev_guide.html to learn more about it.

Where can I go if I have any questions on gadget development or have feedback on specific gadgets?

Since myAOL supports the gadgets.* API spec, you can post questions around that on Google's developer forum. For questions/comments specific to gadget's interaction and functionality on the myAOL site and for feedback on gadgets in the myAOL Gallery, you can post it on the myAOL Gadgets Forum.

Where can I host my gadget?

Once you learn how to build a gadget here, you can host the gadget on Google or your choice of hosting provider. Gadgets can be hosted anywhere that web pages can be stored. myAOL does not provide hosting options at this point. myAOL fetches the manifest XML file when the gadget needs to be rendered and caches it for a few hours. This will prevent the hosting providers from being overloaded with requests.

How do I submit my gadget to myAOL?

Once you have hosted your gadget and have the gadget URL, you can visit myAOL Gadget Developer site and submit your gadget.

What happens after I submit my gadget on myAOL? How does it get to the myAOL Gallery?

Once you submit your gadget on myAOL we will review your gadget and if it meets our usability and quality goals, we will add it to our Gallery.

Where can I see the gadgets that I have submitted to myAOL?

All gadgets that you have submitted to myAOL can be seen in our Gallery under 'My Gadgets' category. Your gadgets in this category are only visible to you. Once they are approved by us it will be added to the Gallery and will be discoverable for all Gallery users.

How do I know how many users have added my gadget to their myAOL profile?

Your gadgets that show under the 'My Gadgets' category in the Gallery also show metrics information on how many myAOL pages have that gadget added.

What types of content are you accepting?

As described in the Terms of Service, you may only post Submissions to public areas on the AOL Developer Network that you created or that you have permission to post. In addition to all other restrictions set forth in this Agreement, you shall not post or transmit through the AOL Developer Network any Submission, or otherwise engage in any conduct that:

  • is unlawful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, libelous, deceptive, fraudulent, invasive of another's privacy, tortious, or contains explicit or graphic descriptions, or accounts of, sexual acts;
  • victimizes, harasses, degrades, or intimidates an individual or group of individuals on the basis of religion, gender, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, age, or disability; or
  • impersonates any person, business or entity, including AOL and its employees and agents.
These policies may be revised from time to time without notice.

What types of gadgets will be rejected?

In accordance with Section 9 of the AOL Developers Network Agreement Terms of Service, you shall not post or transmit through the AOL Developer Network any Submission, or otherwise engage in any conduct that:

  • is unlawful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, libelous, deceptive, fraudulent, invasive of another's privacy, tortious, or contains explicit or graphic descriptions, or accounts of, sexual acts;
