This week, we were in Santa Monica, CA where the team participated in Digital Hollywood Spring. Participation included a booth on the trade show floor along with speakers in four sessions. Next week, June 20-22, we will be in San Francisco at SuperNova and June 26-29, we will be in Las Vegas were we are sponsoring the Topcoder Open (TCO) 2007 competition.

Topcoder Open 2007 (TCO 2007)

I’m really excited about AOL’s Sponsorship of this event that will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada, June 26 - 29, 2007. It's the ultimate TopCoder experience! Four competitions, professional and collegiate programmers and designers from all over the world, 80 finalists, and one grand finale at The Mirage.

AOL sponsored the Topcoder Collegiate Challenge in San Diego last fall. The four hour final was hosted by ESPN's Jeremy Schaap and streamed live on dev.aol.com. This allowed the friends and families of the competitors, from all around the world, to watch the live "play-by-play" competition on their computers. Very cool.

Each day of the TCO 2007 event is crammed full of activities for the one hundred finalists. In addition to the formal competitions, there will be scavenger hunts, and other "fun" challenges to keep the competitors busy throughout the week.

There will be several opportunities to get to interact socially with the competitors. Thursday afternoon, Marcien Jenckes, SVP for AOL Instant Messaging (AIM) (and others to include ICQ and Userplane), will lead a session on Social Networking with AOL. Thursday evening, AOL is sponsoring "Dinner and a Show" for the finalists. The show is The Blue Man Group. It should be a really good time!

The competition wraps up on Friday the 29th. Balan Nair, AOL's CTO will talk to the group on initiatives at AOL. Balan has given his full support to AOL's evangelism efforts, as shown by the events in June alone -- and we are just getting started!
