AOL Developer Network Team at Mashup IV
The AOL Developer Network team is a sponsor of Mashup Camp IV at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, CA this week. The event lasts for four days; the first two days (Monday and Tuesday) are Mashup University and the last two days (Wednesday and Thursday) are Mashup Camp. AOL’s presence includes a booth and speakers at both University and Camp.
Mashup University
Tuesday afternoon was full for the network team with a speed-geeking session that included Terry Hayes along with four AOL presentations by different employees.
Leading off the presentations was Srinivas Lingutla from our authentication team. Srivinas works on AOL's support for OpenID as well as Open Auth. He presented how to use the Open Auth API to authenticate AOL users at web sites, so that the user's identity can be established and the user's data from various AOL services can be obtained and integrated to create new mash up applications.
Kevin Lawver was next up with a presentation titled “Why Deal With Passwords?” He showed a real time demonstration of how to integrate Open Auth and OpenID into a Ruby on Rails application.
Greg Cypes presented a session on Building Social Mashups using the Open AIM APIs. He showed how to integrate AIM and messaging into a website while including plugins and bots that mashup other social networks and sites.
Hitting in the clean up position was Lucas McGregor who is a lead developer on our XDrive team. Lucas has been instrumental is working to get the Open XDrive API published for public consumption. His presentation, “Get your store on: your stuff, your application, our servers” showed developers how to access and leverage the 5GB of free storage that is provided to XDrive customers.
Mashup Camp
This morning David Berlind and Kaliya Hamlin (the Identity Woman) kicked off Mashup Camp by facilitating the agendas for speed-geeking and sessions for Wednesday and Thursday. AOL session on Thursday included Sudhir Tonse and Alberto Cobas showing a demo of the recently launched myAOL along with sessions by Kevin Lawver and Greg Cypes. The remainder of the day was high energy with over 180 attendees going from session to session, with many stopping by the sponsor booths during breaks, at lunch, and during the evening social. It was a great end to a very eventful day. I can’t wait for tomorrow.
